Borges was one of the great prose writers of the twentieth century. His brilliance as a short-story writer shines so brightly that his achievements as one of the great poets of his time are often overlooked or forgotten.
In this lecture, Spanish academic, poet and musician Vicente Cervera Salinas will guide us through the different periods of Borges’s poetry, highlighting the defining features of each and exploring a selection of emblematic poems.
“Poetry of the logos”, or “intellectual poetry”, represents an aesthetic choice on the poet’s part. Borges does not engage in philosophy as such; rather, his poetry gives expression to a philosophical emotion.
Presented by Marcos Liyo, this lecture is organised in collaboration with the Swiss association Los conjurados and the Spanish Unit of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Geneva, with the support of the Embassy of Spain in Switzerland, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation, the Canton of Geneva and the Embassy of Switzerland in Argentina.
